Turkish envoy to Uganda flags off bicycle races

The bicycle race between Turkish and Uganda women aims to deepen engagement in humanitarian cooperation

KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) Turkish ambassador to Uganda Fatih Ak on Tuesday flagged off Turkish cyclists who are participating in the bicycle races in the East African country. He said that Türkiye is primed to enhancing bilateral relations particularly with Uganda.

He also handed over 100 bicycles to Uganda’s Minister of State for Defence Huda Oleru, and 100 ramazan packages, provided by Keşkül Association and Kadın-Tis, both Turkish organizations involved in charity work.

The event was attended by the minister of general duties in the ffice of he Prime Minister, Hon Justine Lumumba Kasule, Hon. Melsa Naima Avako, the Woman member of parliament for Yumbe, Northern Uganda, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) country coordinator Murat Çetin, the rector of the Islamic University In Uganda professor Ismail Ssimbwa Jagenda among others.

Esra Oksay, the chairperson for Kadın-Tis, said that she is proud to support Ugandan women and increase their participation in the business. “As the Women’s Trade Employers Union, we are happy to support women in Africa and particularly Uganda, and we shall continue to develop our projects our Uganda partners” she said.

Keşkül Association head in Uganda Sema Çoşkun said that bicycle races not only entertained the crowd but also ease means of transport especially for women especially in rural areas.

Türkiye is deepening engagement in humanitarian cooperation with Uganda in many fields, provided by various Turkish NGOs in the country, according to the Turkish ambassador.
