January 10 is celebrated as Working Journalists’ Day in Türkiye, since 1961, to honor the rights of journalists

The rector of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Prof. Fatih Yılmaz has congratulated Journalists to mark Türkiye’s annual celebration of Working Journalists’ Day.
In a statement, Yilmaz commended journalists who work day and night to convey the correct news to the public by enduring all kinds of difficulties.
“Journalists undertake the important responsibility of delivering accurate information to the public by enduring all kinds of difficulties in order to defend the society’s right to receive information,” he said.
“Our journalists, who perform this challenging profession that requires always telling the truth, remaining impartial and protecting the public interest, constitute one of the guarantees and cornerstones of our democracy,” he added.
“The struggle of our journalists to protect the freedom of information and to inform the public correctly is indispensable and extremely important for the future of our country. On this special day, I congratulate the January 10 Working Journalists’ Day of all our journalists working in the local and national press who seek news and work day and night to convey the correct news,” Prof. Yilmaz said.

This year’s celebration comes at a time when more journalists especially in Gaza face high risks as they endeavor to cover the ongoing war. As of Jan 10, in three months of Israel’s war on Gaza, more than 100 journalists have been killed in by Israel forces in Gaza, trying to expose horrors committed by Israel Defense Forces.
